This upcoming Thursday, the House Committee on Sustainability and Economic Development will hold the first hearing on HB 2734, the SAFE for Salmon bill. This is an historic moment that brings us even closer to achieving better fishing and better conservation on the Columbia River. Join Us!

Over 100 anglers and activists will be coming to Salem on March 26th for SAFE for Salmon Hearing/Lobby Day. Before the hearing, we will be meeting with dozens of legislatures and letting them know that the problems plaguing the Columbia River fisheries are damaging family businesses and the resource itself.  

Legislators need to know that a solution is needed and needed now! The most influential person in Salem is a legislator’s constituent. Use your voice to let our lawmakers know that SAFE for Salmon must pass!

The more supporters we have on the 26th, the more powerful the impression we will make on the hearing committee and the entire legislative body. Your presence in Salem will help us usher in a new day for fish and fishermen in the Northwest. We need you there!

Although you will not be able to testify at the hearing, you can submit written testimony that can help the Committee grasp the benefits of SAFE for Salmon.

SAFE for Salmon Lobby Day/Hearing Details

WHEN:

• Thursday, March 26th
• 8 AM-3 PM
• (Hearing begins at 1 PM and is scheduled to run two hours)

WHERE:

• The Chinook Room (Across from Café Today in the Capitol Building on the ground floor)
• The Capitol building is located at: 900 Court Street NE, Salem OR
• Parking is available at the following locations:
• Meters on Court St. (Bring Quarters)
• There is free parking in Downtown (You will need to walk six blocks to the Capitol)
• Parking passes can be purchased in the Capitol
• Carpooling is highly suggested
• The hearing will be held in Hearing Room E

WHAT:

• 8 AM- Lobby Day will begin with presentations from supportive legislators and other VIPs. Instructions and tips on how to be successful in your meeting with legislators will also be given. Coffee and breakfast pastries will be served.
• 8:45-9 AM- Groups will begin leaving for legislative meetings. They will be accompanied by someone familiar with the Capitol. The Chinook Room will be opened and staffed all day if you have any questions or problems.
• 11 AM- Lunch will be available in the Chinook Room.
• 12:30 PM- Attendees will begin to leave for the hearing room.
• 1 PM- Hearing begins in room HR E

OTHER NOTES:
§         You will be receiving a SAFE for Salmon pin to wear and keep
§       Dress Code- Comfortable Clothes

• Written testimony will support our oral testimony. Submissions should include:
• Your reasons for supporting HB 2734
• How the current system has adversely affected you and/or your business
